With shifting attitudes and demographics driving American electoral politics, the ability to lead has taken a back seat to identity based campaigning. With Emperor Barack Obama winding down his time as the first black man to take up residence in the White House, Americans are now being sold the hogwash that the highest glass ceiling of all should be shattered by Hillary Clinton largely because she has a vagina.
There are also two Hispanics running for the presidency although only one, Marco Rubio is exploiting his ethnicity for political gain. With the growing movement to normalize national perception and attitudes towards gay people it is only a matter of time until a homosexual mounts a run for the highest office in the land. Perhaps it will be sooner rather than later as Senator Lindsey Graham, who is rumored to be a closeted gay man is getting closer to announcing his own entry into the race.
As reported by Politico in the story “Lindsey Graham eyes May presidential announcement”:
Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday there’s a better than 90 percent chance he’ll run for president, saying he’ll decide in May.
“If I can raise the money, I’ll do it,” the South Carolina Republican said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Graham said he’ll win South Carolina if he’s on the ballot, pointing out he won his reelection primary there last year by more than 40 points, despite challenges from multiple candidates. A recent poll of the GOP presidential primary field in South Caroilna, however, showed him trailing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
Graham certainly has the advantage of being ensured favorable media treatment for his longtime shilling for the arms industry as well as being an ardent defender of the post 9/11 surveillance industrial complex. It is a rare Sunday indeed when Graham isn’t spouting off on at least one of the morning McNews shows that serve as platforms for official Washington talking points and where the presstitute hosts don’t ask tough questions. He also has the backing of another highly influential Republican media favorite in Senator John McCain so if Graham gets into the race it would be foolish to underestimate his chances.
It could be a real wild card if Graham, a lifelong Republican would do the unthinkable and actually cop to being gay. It has the potential to be a game changer and maybe even siphon off some of the “I’d Bottom for Hillary” crowd. While it is speculation as to whether Graham actually is gay, it’s probably better than even money that he can suck a golf ball through a garden hose. For a party that has ongoing image problems as far as being inclusive and ends up getting swatted around like a piñata by liberals accusing it of being bigoted it could be huge although tough for many to swallow.
