The political mudslinging in the global war on Trump is going to another level. With scant days remaining before the test to see if establishment ‘s Florida-Ohio firewall holds, the negative attacks on the hated Republican party front-runner are becoming increasingly nasty. Supporters of Trump are fair game as well with the media using a cherry-picked number of confrontations at Trump rallies to tar and feather all who flock to the Donald’s speeches as Nazi Brownshirts. But it has now gotten to where Ted Cruz appears to be questioning the intelligence of those Americans who are loyally supporting his top rival.

The Hill reports that “Cruz: Trump supporters are ‘low-information’ voters”:

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says rival Donald Trump’s supporters are less informed than his own.

“Donald does well with voters who have relatively low information, who are not that engaged and who are angry, and they see him as an angry voice,” Cruz told The Brody File on Wednesday.

“Where we are beating him is when voters get more engaged and they get more informed.”

Cruz also called Trump out for saying earlier this month that he loved the “poorly educated” while touting his appeal among a wide variety of voters.

The Texas senator said he understands people vote for Trump because they are angry with the “corruption of Washington.”

“If you’re angry at the corruption of Washington, you don’t solve it by supporting someone who has been enmeshed in the Washington corruption for 40 years,” he said.

When voters are more informed, Cruz continued, they learn about Trump’s record and conclude that Cruz is the only candidate in a position to “stand up to Washington.”

“He’s what they’re angry at. He is the corruption, and if you want someone to stand up to Washington, the only one who has been doing so in this race is me,” he said.

Cruz has managed to appeal to people with his outsider rhetoric and to this point has been able to dodge the fact that he himself is an Ivy League educated slickster. That’s right, Cruz is a Harvard man just like Barack Obama and like all elitist snobs he appears to have a sneering contempt for the peasants who just want a say in how their country is being run – he’s just been damned good at hiding it so far. Cruz’s comments also jibe with the increasing support that he is receiving from the establishment including an endorsement from elitist former Hewlett-Packard CEO and failed presidential candidate Carly Fiorina. The hiring by the Cruz campaign of Neil Bush – Jeb’s brother – is also a sign that the man who has built his image on being an anti-Washington renegade may be going native.

Not exactly a very good way to reach out to people that will be needed to stop Hillary Clinton if Cruz gets the nomination. He is going to need every single vote that he can get because demographically he is ill-suited for a national campaign where his appeals to religion are going to play out very differently in November than in the primaries. It doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense alienating folks that you will need down the road. Then again, the establishment getting behind Cruz could be the leading indicator that they are prepared to just hand the White House over to Bill and Hillary and save their own miserable asses rather than have Trump kick down the door to the entire corrupt shithouse.
