Failed presidential candidate and incurable egomaniac Mitt Romney raised eyebrows when he appeared to endorse Texas senator Ted Cruz in the Utah caucus last week, especially since the ignominious loser had stumped for Ohio Governor John Kasich only days before. While Romney’s move seemed to be an extension of his crusade to take down GOP front-runner Donald Trump by jumping onboard the Cruz bandwagon, there are still many who are uncomfortable with the second place candidate over his past actions including pushing for a government shutdown. Not to worry though, the Mittster’s support of Cruz is only a strategic ploy to deprive the Donald of the necessary votes to clinch the party nomination and that would open the possibility to a Romney candidacy, possibly Romney-Ryan redux and Ted will be discarded once he has served his purpose. It’s some cold blooded shit but that’s just the way that these people operate.

The Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin is assuring her readers that Mitt really doesn’t dig Ted all that much and not to worry because the establishment will field a candidate more to their liking come July in Cleveland. Rubin’s column is entitled “Romney argues to vote for an open convention”:

Like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Mitt Romney does his party and the country a service by a no-nonsense stance on Donald Trump.

Romney does not bother touting Cruz. The salient point is that Cruz is not Trump and can stop Trump from getting to 1,237 delegates.

Romney does not insist Cruz must be the nominee; to the contrary Romney makes clear Cruz is a vehicle to an open convention. It is an important distinction that should alleviate voters’ queasiness about voting for Cruz. They are essentially voting for an open convention to stop Trump.

Romney and other respected Republicans — former Cabinet members, Bush 41 and Bush 43, former VPs and highly-respected, retired military officials should appear either in person or in media in each and every remaining primary and caucus state to reiterate that message. It is especially critical that they make that case in California, whose 172 delegates must be kept out of Trump’s clutches. It is time they defended the GOP from a putsch by the Trumpkins.

The message, in short, is not merely #NeverTrump, but #YesOpenConvention.

Cruz may be basking in the adoration and acceptance of the establishment right now but he is only being used as a tool to thwart Trump. Once the convention is thrown into chaos then the hero of many die hard conservatives will also find himself with a dagger embedded in his back and if the corrupt establishment has it’s way he will sleep with the fishes along with Trump. Rubin’s choice? Now that her objet d’amour Marco Rubio has been exposed as an empty suit and a fraud she has been floating the name of former Texas Governor Rick Perry. However that won’t happen if Mr. Romney has anything to say about it and he is busily recording robocalls for Cruz in order to keep shaving points off of Trump’s lead.

The only true way to thwart the establishment would be a Trump-Cruz unity ticket.
