The Boston Globe has just trumped the Washington Post in the race to the bottom to destroy the Donald. In a stunning foray from publishing news into pure propaganda, Beantown’s top newspaper has published a “satirical” front page that hit the doorsteps of readers on Sunday morning with the headline “Deportations to Begin”. The fictitious story marks a new stage in the media war on Trump and an ominous escalation considering that the Massachusetts primary is over and the candidate already won big there.

As reported by CNNMoney “Boston Globe’s Donald Trump satire: ‘Deportations to begin'”:

Sunday’s Boston Globe is warning readers about the “deeply troubling” risks of a Donald Trump presidency by publishing an imaginary front page from April 9, 2017.

“Deportations to Begin,” the top headline blares. “Markets sink as trade war looms,” says another. “New libel law targets ‘absolute scum’ in press,” says a third.

The satirical front page — which replaces the usual front of the newspaper’s Ideas section — includes jokes but seeks to make a very serious point.

“This is an exercise in taking Donald Trump at his word,” Ideas section editor Katie Kingsbury told CNNMoney.

A tweet from the Globe called it “the front page we hope we never have to print.”

The section front includes an “editor’s note” that says “This is Donald Trump’s America.” It was produced by the editorial page of the Globe, which is separate from the newsroom.

When readers open up the section, they’ll see a full-page editorial on page two titled “GOP Must Stop Trump.” The editorial says Ted Cruz would be “perhaps more dangerous” than Trump and asserts that the party should rally behind Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan at the convention instead.

The actual Ideas section starts on page three. The faux front page resembles an April Fools Day prank by a college newspaper — but is bound to get a lot more attention.

“Our goal is to create a conversation about what a Donald Trump presidency could look like,” Kingsbury said.

The scurrilous effort to deceive voters add to paint the outsider as the second coming of Hitler is a first in American journalism in the post-free press era of media consolidation. The BOGLO piece doesn’t sing the praises of Ted Cruz either but rather pushes for a third option as the CNN story indicates.

Excerpted from the Globe’s accompanying editorial entitled “The GOP must stop Trump”:

Donald J. Trump’s vision for the future of our nation is as deeply disturbing as it is profoundly un-American.

It is easy to find historical antecedents. The rise of demagogic strongmen is an all too common phenomenon on our small planet. And what marks each of those dark episodes is a failure to fathom where a leader’s vision leads, to carry rhetoric to its logical conclusion. The satirical front page of this section attempts to do just that, to envision what America looks like with Trump in the White House.

It is an exercise in taking a man at his word. And his vision of America promises to be as appalling in real life as it is in black and white on the page. It is a vision that demands an active and engaged opposition. It requires an opposition as focused on denying Trump the White House as the candidate is flippant and reckless about securing it.

After Wisconsin, the odds have shrunk that Trump will arrive in Cleveland with the requisite 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination outright. Yet if he’s denied that nomination for falling short of the required delegates, Trump has warned, “You’d have riots. I think you’d have riots.” Indeed, who knows what Trump’s fervent backers are capable of if emboldened by the defeat of their strongman at the hands of the hated party elite.

The fictitious front page features stories about a 6,000 point collapse in the Dow “Markets Sink as Trade War Looms” , the imposition of fascism “Curfews Extended in Multiple Cities” and a crackdown on the media “New Libel Law Targets ‘Absolute Scum in Press”. The “satire” also feeds into the media martyr status of Fox News’s ambitious blonde bimbo Megyn Kelly by reporting that she has been put on a media blacklist by President Trump. The “absolute scum” in the media would be a fitting label to apply to the Boston Globe management team for this blatantly dishonest smear tactic that will surely prove to be controversial but it will sell papers which is the bottom line in the dead tree media.

Joseph Goebbels would be proud.
