The desperation of the Never Trumpers is mounting as time grows short for fielding a third party candidate to sabotage the billionaire iconoclast’s run for the White House. According to a story published by the Washington Post on Saturday the anti-Trump cabal is led by none other than failed former Republican presidential candidate Willard “Mitt” Romney, a man who bears much responsibility for the extra four years of Obama purgatory that Americans have had inflicted upon them. With time running short to field a candidate with a legitimate chance at denying Trump the White House – and handing it over to the Clintons – Team Romney has reached out to a number of figures including Dallas Mavericks owner and reality TV personality Mark Cuban.

ESPN reports that “Mark Cuban on presidential bid: ‘I don’t see it happening’”:

Mark Cuban told The Washington Post that a group of conservative politicians have asked him to run as a third-party candidate in this year’s presidential election.
The band of Republican politicians, according to the Post, is attempting to block presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and believes that Cuban, the outspoken billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, would resonate with voters.

Although he said he would “put [Trump] in his place,” Cuban told the Post that he does not anticipate running for president this year, saying “there isn’t enough time.”
“I don’t see it happening,” Cuban wrote in an email to the newspaper.

Cuban declined to identify the anti-Trump Republicans to the Post, although he did reveal that the conservative group told him that he could challenge Trump because of his “bluster and volume, combined with substance and the ability to connect with voters on a more personal basis.”

“[Trump] could come after me all he wanted, and he knows I would put him in his place,” Cuban said. “All that said, again, I don’t see it happening. There isn’t enough time.”
While Cuban doesn’t name the Republican operatives who tried to lure him the WAPO does. In addition to Romney there is ubiquitous neocon William Kristol, overstuffed blowhard blogger Erick Erickson and political cesspool dwellers Rick Wilson and Stuart Stevens among others.

Cuban has long been an outspoken political gadfly and presides over the panel of judges on ABC’s hit reality television show “Shark Tank” in which aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their mostly idiotic ideas. It’s a shameless ripoff on Trump’s own “The Apprentice” but the prospect of Cuban as the anti-Trump would have certainly made for good headlines even if the idea was dead on arrival.

Romney’s motivation for trying to sink Trump – and the entire party along with him – is easy to see, he’s an embittered loser and an egomaniac. Kristol has served as the Vladimir I. Lenin for the neoconservative intellectual ideas to remake the Middle East that have to this point resulted in a horrific charnel house of death, destruction and trillions of dollars in wasted money – unless you happen to work at a think tank or government contractor that has profited off of it all. Tens of thousands of American servicemen and women have been killed or maimed as a result of the neocon nerd pack who while being great at playing Avalon Hill board games and Risk in college have no place in U.S. foreign policy. The others are all just gravy train riders and paid consultants who have been wrong about everything in the 2016 campaign and are terrified that their phones will stop ringing if Trump gets elected and they will be faced with the grim reality that they will have to go out and get real jobs.

The WAPO story names them all and in addition to Cuban, the Romney rat pack also sought out former Bush administration figure Condoleezza Rice as well as retired Army general Stanley McChrystal among others. Of note is that the story states that the Never Trumpers have recently reached out to Ohio Governor John Kasich who finally bowed out of the race after all efforts to block Trump at a brokered convention evaporated after the Indiana ass-whipping. Kasich was always a mysterious figure with even more opaque motivations but it’s hard to see him booking passage on Romney’s ship of fools.

The Romney group is also enamored with freshman Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska who has done jack shit during his sort time in Congress but is an easily manipulated tool eager to become a player. While he may give Mitt and Bill boners Sasse is hardly a household name and was sternly rebuked by his own party for his anti-Trump activity at Saturday’s Nebraska Republican convention. The very idea of a third party run at Trump with Sasse as the frontman is ludicrous beyond comprehension. Nobody knows who he is and

RNC boss Reinhold “Reince” Priebus responded to the Washington Post story during his whistle stop tour of the Sunday morning shit shows by saying that the idea is tantamount to a “suicide mission”. But that won’t stop Romney who is following in the footsteps of his father George who was instrumental in taking down Barry Goldwater back in 1964. But at the end of the day Romney and Kristol’s efforts are ultimately doomed largely because both Mitt the candidate and the neoconservative principles that Kristol espouses have been rejected and discredited. The WAPO cites the venerable old warhorse Pat Buchanan as well who scoffs at the Never Trumpers and their knight in shining armor. According to Buchanan, “The career of the individual would come to an end, and he would have a difficult spot in history for being responsible for putting Hillary Clinton in the White House.”
