Beltway rock star Paul Ryan continues to undermine his own party’s presidential nominee. The Republican Speaker of the House joined the mad rush to get in on the Khan job by having his picture taken with a pocket Constitution in the same manner that Hillary’s Muslim stage prop did at the DNC convention last week. After the obligatory denunciation of Donald Trump in the Khzir Khan kerfuffle, Ryan was the featured guest at a big Colorado mountain shindig sponsored by the billionaire Koch brothers where he thrilled the audience with his support of globalist trade sellouts and vowed to save the GOP’s soul.
As reported by The Hill “Paul Ryan: We’re in fight to ‘retake the soul’ of the Republican Party”:
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told a donor audience convened by the billionaire Koch brothers that they’re in a fight to “retake the soul” of the Republican Party.
“We have to do a better job of taking the moral high ground … showing [conservative] ideas in practice,” Ryan said on Monday.
“And it will help us retake the soul of our own party, which we have our own challenges with these days.
Ryan addressed a room of some 400 donors who have been gathered here since Saturday in a luxury resort at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains for the summer retreat of the Koch network, founded by billionaire brothers Charles and David.
The Kochs, who helm the most powerful financial force in conservative politics, are refusing to support Trump on both policy and moral grounds; Ryan didn’t mention the party’s nominee by name during his speech.
Ryan’s references to “conservatism” show how the term has been rendered into a euphemism for crony capitalism and the big donors have been the driving force behind his rise to prominence. The media has assisted in the packaging of Ryan as a reluctant bipartisan savior from political dysfunction despite the truth that he is nothing more than a snake in the grass who will sell out America in a nanosecond as will be seen with the all but inevitable cramdown of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) in the lame duck session after the election. The TPP is the crown jewel of Barack Obama’s radical agenda and is one of the primary reasons why Trump is so venomously opposed by the establishment.
The Hill article continues:
Ryan also explained the way he sees his own role as a leader navigating perilous waters for the Republican Party.
He said the GOP is “flirting with various forms of progressivism.”
“As Republicans our challenge is to become a pro-market party and not be a pro-business party,” he said, in a reference to the corporate subsidies that are fiercely opposed by the network.
“I’m looking at the current moment, which is clearly an interesting moment. We see ourselves in the House as sort of the engine room of the ship of the Republican Party,” he said.
“We’re down in the bottom … in the bowels shoveling coal into the furnace. And by the way, there’s nothing wrong with coal.”
The donor audience, which contains several coal barons, laughed and clapped.
“But we also see ourselves adding a keel and a rudder to the ship, giving it substance and giving it direction.
“Giving it a moral foundation.”
Reluctant Ryan wowed the audience with his metaphors but it’s not coal that he is shoveling.
Breitbart News further elaborates “Paul Ryan Gets Standing Ovation at Koch Donors Retreat After Repudiating Trump’s Trade Policies”:
House Speaker Paul Ryan received a standing ovation from wealthy donors after denouncing the views of Republican voters, who are skeptical of so-called “free trade” deals.
Speaking at a lavish retreat for 400 donors hosted by a network helmed by libertarian billionaires Charles and David Koch, Paul Ryan suggested it was incumbent upon the Party to “repudiate” the views of Republican voters, who do not support Ryan and his donors’ trade agenda.
Ryan reportedly assured donors that he will work to “win some of these fights” and advance their agenda on trade — presumably meaning that Ryan plans to push through the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, supported by GOP donors.
It was just reported that the Koch network is refusing to run any negative ads against Hillary Clinton which is a covert way of showing that they are behind her because she will keep the existing system of crony capitalism firmly cemented in place. Ryan will be an integral party of that initiative because as long as he can keep collecting his thirty pieces of silver it’s no matter whether he is kissing Obama’s or Clinton’s ass because at the end of the day they are all on the same team.
