The news that rocked the political world on Friday continues to reverberate. FBI Director James Comey drew the wrath of Democrats and their GOP establishment cronies when he sent a letter to Congress advising that the bureau was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. The story keeps getting better as according to a report, Comey did so against the wishes of his boss – Attorney General Loretta Lynch. The letter of course was immediately leaked to the press and the resulting firestorm is now threatening to bring down the House of Clinton less than two weeks before her anticipated coronation.
As reported by The New Yorker “James Comey Broke With Loretta Lynch and Justice Department Tradition”:
On Friday, James Comey, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, acting independently of Attorney General Loretta Lynch, sent a letter to Congress saying that the F.B.I. had discovered e-mails that were potentially relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private server. Coming less than two weeks before the Presidential election, Comey’s decision to make public new evidence that may raise additional legal questions about Clinton was contrary to the views of the Attorney General, according to a well-informed Administration official. Lynch expressed her preference that Comey follow the department’s longstanding practice of not commenting on ongoing investigations, and not taking any action that could influence the outcome of an election, but he said that he felt compelled to do otherwise.
And
The F.B.I. director is an employee of the Justice Department, and is covered by its policies. But when asked whether Comey had followed these guidelines and consulted with the Public Integrity Section, or with any other department officials, Kevin Lewis, a deputy director of public affairs for the Justice Department, said, “We have no comment on the matter.”
According to the Administration official, Lynch asked Comey to follow Justice Department policies, but he said that he was obliged to break with them because he had promised to inform members of Congress if there were further developments in the case. He also felt that the impending election created a compelling need to inform the public, despite the tradition of acting with added discretion around elections. The Administration official said that Lynch and Justice Department officials are studying the situation, which he called unprecedented.
Having run afoul of Lynch and her boss Barack Obama, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that Comey is a dead man walking now and may not even last thought the weekend. We could have a repeat of the infamous Saturday Night Massacre when Richard M. Nixon fired Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox and accepted the resignation of his Attorney General who refused to do the deed. There will be intense pressure brought to bear on Comey to retract his letter but as the saying goes: you can’t put the toothpaste back into the tube.
Who knows what Comey’s motivations are. He was once hailed as a hero for a 2004 refusal to sign off on President George W. Bush’s at the time illegal mass surveillance programs when he was acting Attorney General after John Ashcroft was stricken with pancreatitis. The then Deputy AG prevailed in a hospital room showdown with Bush regime officials Alberto Gonzales and Andrew Card who had tried to get the bed-ridden Ashcroft to reauthorize the programs. Comey won that battle and whatever domestic snooping programs that weren’t eventually legalized under Bush were codified after Barry moved into the crib at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
Perhaps Comey was rankled over having to call off the dogs in the first place. His now infamous announcement to not pursue criminal charges against Hillary shortly after his boss Lynch secretly met with Bill Clinton on that airplane in Phoenix in what smelled like a political fix from the get-go may not have sat well with him. Maybe it’s a way of making up for that mistake, only Comey knows and it’s likely that he’ll never tell.
The fury of the Democrats is burning white-hot today and some of the more vile elements of the party like screamin’ scumbag Howard Dean has already linked the embattled FBI Director to global super-villain and convenient bogeyman Vladimir Putin:
Dean may be a notorious loose cannon and a party hack but now that he has made the charge it’s going to be picked up by others as Obama and Hillary both have everything to lose if the Clinton crime syndicate is unable to close the deal on the presidency.
Comey most certainly will be fired after the election if not before and if he refuses to go quietly, there is always the Fort Marcy Park option.
