The Hillary Clinton campaign has now invoked the sinister innuendo that FBI Director James Comey just may be a Kremlin mole. The smearing of her opponents as agents of a foreign power has become a standard defense for Team Hillary against critics and right on schedule it’s being used to deflect attention from the renewed firestorm over those damn emails.
The Washington Post reports “Clinton campaign accuses FBI director of ‘double standard’ in email probe“:
Top aides for Hillary Clinton on Monday accused FBI Director James Comey of a “double standard” in his handling of the investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook called on Comey to explain why he rushed to disclose new information about the status of the investigation into Clinton, while reportedly opposing, on the grounds that it would be too close to the election, a public statement by the FBI that the Russian government was seeking the influence the presidential race.
“It is impossible to view this as anything less than a blatant double standard,” Mook said.
Democrats are reeling from the news late last week that — a little more than a week before the election — Comey is revisiting his probe into the potential mishandling of classified material.
Aiming to quickly redirect the focus of the presidential race, the Clinton campaign seized on news reports that Comey had rejected efforts within the FBI to identify Russia as the source of hacking incidents this year, which primarily effected Democratic organizations, including Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.
Followed up with another WAPO smear piece “Comey was concerned publicly blaming Russia for hacks of Democrats could appear too political in runup to elections”:
FBI Director James B. Comey advised against the Obama administration publicly accusing Russia of hacking political organizations on the grounds that it would make the administration appear unduly partisan too close to the Nov. 8 election, according to officials familiar with the deliberations.
But he supported the administration’s formal denunciation last month as long as it did not have the FBI’s name on it, they said. Comey was sensitive not only to his agency appearing to influence the election but also to seeming biased while it was conducting an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions.
At the same time, the bureau works with Russian services on a variety of terrorism and criminal matters.
The FBI declined to comment.
I can’t recall a Republican presidential or for that matter ANY candidate ever openly accusing their opponent of being an agent of a foreign bogeyman. It’s a dangerous new low for the Democrats and a frightening sign of the witch hunts to come if Hillary wins the election next week.
Such shameless demagoguery conjures up images of Communist dictator Joseph Stalin’s totalitarian Russia and the great enemies purge, a piece of history that Team Hillary seems to be particularly fond of. Either that or the McCarthy era but there actually were a number of undercover commies who had wormed their way into the apple at that time so Stalin would be the preferential role model for Robbie Mook and the rest of the dangerous loons running the Dem party.
