FBI Director James Comey has now pulled off both an October and a November surprise and with two days to go until the election has cleared Hillary Clinton of wrongdoing over emails discovered on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Comey’s second shocker comes only hours after Democrat Al Franken went on CNN and announced that the embattled official would be subjected to a Stalinist style tribunal in the Senate if Mrs. Clinton were to win the election. Now Comey has sent another letter to Congress appearing to give Hillary the get out of jail free card that she desperately needed in the closing hours before voters go to the polls on Tuesday.

CNN is reporting “FBI: Review of new emails doesn’t change conclusion on Clinton”:

FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers Sunday the agency hasn’t changed its opinion that Hillary Clinton should not face criminal charges after a review of new emails.

Comey had dropped a bombshell 11 days from the election when he informed Congress that the FBI had discovered emails in its separate investigation of Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, that could be connected to its investigation of whether Clinton mishandled classified information by using a private email server.

The news could help Clinton put to rest a controversy that has dogged her in the 2016 race’s closing days, helping Donald Trump narrow a polling gap nationally and in key battleground states.

“Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July,” Comey said in the letter to top Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.

Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said her campaign is validated in its belief that nothing would change.

Democrats were jubilant now that the pall of suspicion has been lifted by their crooked candidate and hope that the latest potential game changer will be sufficient to tamp down public anxiety over allowing an outright criminal to slither into the White House.

It’s hard to see this as any sort of exoneration of Clinton though, Comey had already betrayed the public confidence the first time that he cleared Hillary after Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch’s secret meeting on that airplane in Phoenix. The move smacks of choosing to save his own ass at the expense of bringing gross embarrassment and shame upon the FBI which has now become an abject mockery just like the Justice Department.

This election season takes one more twist in what has been a roller coaster series of events and it’s still not over.
