Soft drink colossus PepsiCo is the latest corporation to make the political news after last week’s amazing election results. In a move that has the potential to cost shareholders millions of dollars, CEO Indra Nooyi held what amounts to a group therapy session for fragile snowflake employees who were distraught over Donald Trump’s victory. Ms. Nooyi who is a supporter of the now banished Hillary Rodham-Clinton is walking a fine line between consoling weeping ninnies and keeping stock prices up which is her number one obligation to investors.
According to Heat Street is “PepsiCo’s Celebrity CEO Says ‘Our Employees Are All Crying’ After Trump Election”:
PepsiCo’s celebrity CEO, Indra Nooyi, a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, told a New York Times Dealbook event that her employees were “traumatized” after learning Donald Trump had won the Presidential election.
Nooyi said she spent last Wednesday reassuring and consoling her distraught employees, answering their questions and promising that she would not allow President-elect Trump to target them in anyway.
“I had to answer a lot of questions, from my daughters, from my employees, they were all in mourning,” she tells the crowd in a video posted to the NYT YouTube site. “Our employees are all crying, and the question that they are asking, especially those that are not white: ‘Are we safe?’ Women are asking, ‘Are we safe?’ LGBT people are asking, ‘Are we safe?’ I never thought I’d have had to answer those questions.”
The reaction after Trump’s smack down of Mrs. Clinton has to have many wondering exactly what the hell kind of a country that we live in anymore. Normally an election doesn’t trigger a collective emotional breakdown and the reaction to Trump’s win only serves to reinforce legendary tough guy actor/director Clint Eastwood’s widely derided remarks about the “pussy” generation.
Coca Cola executives must be clicking their heels over Nooyi’s soothing of her thin-skinned flock which will likely lead to a wave of product boycotts not to mention potential lawsuits by employees who voted for Trump and who now must exist in a hostile work environment thanks to PepsiCo’s imbecile of a CEO.
