Emperor Barack Obama is now playing the fear card and dealing it from the bottom of the deck. With the unconstitutional monstrosity that is Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act ready to expire on Sunday, Barry the bullshitter is conjuring bogeymen and spewing apocalyptic conjecture. Obama, one of the most sleazy and dastardly liars ever to reside in the Oval Office is desperate to protect the ability of his NSA Stasi to illegally collect and index the phone records of millions of law-abiding Americans and political foes.

According to CBS News in the story “Obama: “Heaven forbid” there’s a problem after NSA program lapses”:

President Obama on Friday urged the Senate to pass the USA Freedom Act to reform one of the NSA’s controversial surveillance programs before it expires completely, warning that failure to do so could leave the nation at risk.

“I don’t want us to be in a situation in which for a certain period of time those authorities go away and suddenly we’re dark, and heaven forbid we’ve got a problem where we could’ve prevented a terrorist attack or apprehended someone who was engaged in dangerous activity,” Mr. Obama said to reporters from the White House, “But we didn’t do so simply because of inaction in the Senate.”

The authority for the National Security Agency’s bulk phone records collection program is set to expire on June 1 if Congress doesn’t act. The House earlier this month passed the USA Freedom Act, which would effectively end the program in its current from. However, it would still let the government access records from the phone companies, which would be obligated to hold onto those records.

It’s unclear whether the USA Freedom Act can make it through the Senate, where libertarian Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, has opposed the bill on the premise that it doesn’t do enough to protect civil liberties.

Obama and the fear pimps for the trillion dollar surveillance industrial complex that surrounds imperial Washington are honing in on Senator Rand Paul who is the only one fighting the gutting of the Fourth Amendment. While El Presidente is not specifically singling out Paul by name – at least not yet – Obama is blaming a “handful” of Senators one of which is Rand Paul.

Fear mongering is nothing new in post-constitutional America. 9/11 was just way too good of a crisis to have been allowed to go to waste for implementing a police and surveillance state that despite what we have been told is largely needed for two reasons. One is the money of course, as jobs were offshored by the millions by greedy corporations the spying and terrorism industries grew and they need a constant threat to continue to get paid. There are over 5 million Americans holding security clearances for their work in the surveillance state Gomorrah that our tax money underwrites. Secondly, and by far more important to the state, is that when all of the Federal Reserve scams stop working – and that day is coming – and the economy goes down for the count there will be a lot of really pissed off and desperate people who will need to be watched very closely.

The lies about the phone record collection have been continually churned out by Obama and other slimy politicians. Their fallback is that the NSA is “not listening” to phone calls but they are carefully parsing their words. The calls don’t have to be listened to, just stored away using the metadata as an indexing system for when the time comes to round up the trouble makers.  It is impossible to listen to the calls although a sophisticated computer system can convert the calls into searchable text.

There is no limit to the mendacity of our ‘leaders’ – and when all else fails – fear always works. As the late, great American writer H.L. Mencken so eloquently put it: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”  All of the hobgoblins will be unleashed over the weekend and you can bet your bottom dollar that Sunday morning’s McNews shows will feature an all-star lineup of apple pie authoritarian, Constitution hating fascist swine who have gotten used to selling the bill of goods of a false sense of security in exchange for the surrender of our civil liberties. It has been a deal with the devil and it’s time to realize that it has been a very bad one as well.
